Having various in-game and premium currencies is normal in games nowadays, but Tower of Fantasy takes the concept to the extreme: over a dozen different currencies and resources exist in the new role-playing game. This is very confusing and slightly daunting, especially at first glance. This guide will give you an overview and explain which currencies exist, what they are good for and how to earn them.

Let’s start with the basics: Gold is the game world’s currency and lets you buy things like cooking ingredients from NPC merchants. You also need it to finance weapon and equipment upgrades. You’ll find gold practically everywhere in the game: chests, missions, progress rewards, as a login bonus, and so on.

The three nucleus types are one of the most important currencies in the game because you use them to operate the Gacha system, called Special Orders. This is a sort of slot machine that you feed those nuclei into and that then spits out random characters , weapons, and advancement materials.

You find Gold and Black Nuclei by exploring the map, getting them as rewards for missions, leveling up, opening chests, and many other sources. However, these deplete over time, so in the long run you’ll have to rely on buying the nuclei with the help of other currencies. The most important of these is Dark Crystal (more on that below).

If you use Gold Nuclei to receive Special Orders, Black Gold will drop as a side product.

You use Black Gold to buy weapon upgrade materials as well as additional copies of weapons you already own, which you need to unlock a weapon’s full potential, in the Weapon Shop.

As mentioned, Dark Crystal is one of the most important currencies in the game – if you are familiar with Genshin Impact , then Dark Crystal can be compared to Primogems. 

You exchange Dark Crystal for Gold, Black, and Red Nuclei as well as many other things in the HOT store. Dark Crystal is found in chests, as mission rewards, progress rewards, and from other sources. We’ve listed all the ways you can collect Dark Crystals in this guide.

Proof of Purchase is another Gacha resource to obtain Special Orders. However, you won’t get weapons with it, but matrices. You can upgrade each weapon with several matrices, imbuing them with additional bonuses. After 40 draws, you are guaranteed to get an SSR matrix.

The Base Chip is the counterpart to Black Gold: Base Chips drop when you draw matrices by using up Proofs of Purchase.

In the Matrix Store, you can get select matrix chests in exchange for Base Chips.

Energy Crystal Dust serves as a means of payment in the Crystal Dust Store.

There you will find gifts for your characters that will earn you awakening points. Provide your characters with the right presents to unlock avatars, traits and other things. You’ll also be able to buy additional equipment for yourself in that store.

You’ll get Energy Crystal Dust by performing any activities that cost Vitality.

To draw a comparison with Genshin Impact again: Vitality is this game’s Resin. You have 180 Vitality available per day by default to start special multiplayer and solo activities. There is an item that refreshes this pool with additional Vitality, which is purchasable with Dark Crystals.

These missions not only provide you with item rewards, but likewise the aforementioned Energy Crystal Dust.

Every week freely provides a sort of mini battle pass in the game rewarding you with items and currencies, which you complete by earning Activity points.

To do this, you simply finish the specified tasks – open a certain number of chests, log in several times and things like that.

Dark Crystal, among other things, awaits as a reward, as well as Merit XP, which boosts the level of the actual battle pass available in the game.

As if the many currencies and resources weren’t confusing enough, the developers decided to name two different currencies ‘Merit’. We already mentioned Merit XP functioning in effect as battle pass XP.

The other currency named Merit is something you use in the Crew Shop to buy items to upgrade your equipment. You get this kind of Merit by participating in activities of your crew – that’s your guild.

Support Points and Return Support Points are earned by forming a team with players who are new to the game or have recently returned after a break. This hopefully generates some positive interactions with each other as well as a good support system for newcomers.

You can buy a limited number of nuclei and other materials in the Support Store with these points.

You earn Training Points by completing the specified tasks at the training stations you find on the map. These can be different activities from battles with time limits to scoring goals with a soccer ball.

You spend Training Points in the Points Store, which offers XP materials and gifts for characters.

Tanium is the premium currency of the game and can only be obtained with real money.

Tanium can be exchanged for Daily Supplies. These are packages of nuclei, Dark Crystals, and other resources that you receive every day as a sort of subscription service.

Using attractions in the amusement park on Cetus Island generates tickets. These can be exchanged for exclusive rewards on the spot.
